April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players who have earned medals multiple times at an Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and is set to join her at Tokyo. Ross's aim is to get her first Olympic gold medal. This may be the last time she has the chance as she is 39 years old. Her confidence is high nevertheless. Ross was quoted in NBC Boston as saying that if you play your best, even if you do well, we'll get the gold. Additionally, I'm going be relying on a little bit of luck. Ross was born on the 22, 1982, at Costa Mesa California. She resided in the area with her family. In addition to playing in numerous sports, Ross was also a student at Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and track, in addition to her indoor volleyball exploits as a prep athlete. She was definitely the best at the sport of indoor volleyball. According to her bio, she played a middle blocker and an outside hitter on the volleyball court during her high-school career. In recognition of her work, she was honored as in 1999 as the Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. Her volleyball skills also won her an Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in the year 2000. Ross is currently playing with Klineman since 2017 but her beach game had been established long before the year. She's won big tournaments twice with different partners. A couple of those has become an icon of the world of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until the year 2013. Together with Kessy Ross was a force on the international stage, claiming the world championship in 2009. They took home a Silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor's legendary team as well as Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor when she retired. In 2016, the duo were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. In high school and the several years prior to hitting the sand professionally, Ross was a ball to the Trojans at USC while a collegiate. Ross had an impressive run in the NCAA tournament. In 2000, as a freshman she fought her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA All-American Freshman of Year awards and was an All-American. Also, she was one of the key players in helping the Trojans to make it to their way to the Final Four. In her sophomore year, she experienced a devastating personal loss but still managed to be a second All-American. Through the two years she played for the Trojans, she helped them achieve consecutive championships. In 2003-2004, Ross was named the top female volleyball player on the collegiate scene in America through The Honda Sports Award. Ross took a course in the study of international relations in USC. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie never got to see her daughter ascend to the very top of beach volleyball stardom. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001, when Ross was in the midst of being a USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed. As a result, Ross remains close to her parent who died. Margie is a source of inspiration throughout her life, as well as on the beach.
